Sir Ralph and Lady Wilmot, who have been touring New Zealand, will leave for Sydney to-morrow by the Warrimoo. Tho Hon. T. Mackenzie visited tie Manawatu district yesterday. ' The: Hon. E. MT£enzie (Minister for Public Works) leaves Gisborne this morning for Wairoa, en route to Napier. He will probably reach Wellington on Saturday or Monday. Mr. F. Hockley, of Eangitikei, ie at present on a visit to the city. Mr. A. J. Abbott will be a passenger for Sydney to-morrow by the Warrimoo. It is probable that Mr. W. D. Murdoch, chief building inspector of the City Council, will be' appointed an'assistant engineer in connection with the.general engineering work of the corporation, and thai alterations will be made in regard to the work of building inspection. Mr. Murdoch, who has qualified :as a civil engineer, is a son of Mr. 51. Murdoch, a former member: of the City Council. Passengers leaving for London to-day by the lonic include Mr. L. M. Earle, an enthusiastic alpine climber, Mr. and Mrs. John Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Duncan, of Wellington; Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Mabin, of Karaka Bay; Mrs. W. F. A. Levin, Mr. J: Handyside, Mr. C. F. Johnstone, and Mr. J. M'Menemen. Amongst the passengers to arrive from Sydney by the Moeraki yesterday was Mr. W. G. T. Goodman, general manager of the Adelaide electric tramways, who superintended the installation of the electric car system in Dunedin. _Mr. Goodman has been summoned to New Zealand to give evidence, before the commission set up to inquire into the efficiency of the brakes on tho Auckland cars.' Dr. David Morrison, late of Gisborne, where he was superintendent of the hospital for' some years, has taken up his residence in Wellington.
Among the passengers to arrive from Sydney by the Moeraki yesterday were Mrs. Tudor Atkinson, of Wellington, Mr. and Mrs. W; J. Morpeth, of Wellington, who havo been holiday-making in Australia; Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Eussell, of Chrietchurch, who. are returning from a trip round the world; and Mr. Yeoman, who has been appointed superintendent at Auckland for the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society.
Mr. E. W. O'Sullivan, M.L.A., who has been ill for some time past, suffering, m the first instance, from a poisoned foot, was removed on April 16 to St. Vincent s Hospital, Sydney,,to-permit of an operation performed. Mr. Charles Cooper, manager of ' the Liverpool, London, and Globe Insurance Company at Christchnroh, vs a viator to Wellington.
Mr. F. Brown, of the Singer Sewing Machine Company, arrived from Sydney yesterday, by the Moeraki. Among the passengers for Home today will be Capt. W. F. G. Levin J D.C. Feilding MX, and Captain J. loralmson, of Gisborne, aotive list, unattached. : Mr. J. M'Glmchey, who was for some time in .the State Coal Department, was presented on Saturday with a case .of pipes from the clerical ftaff.and a greenstone and gold shamrock. pendant by the depot, yard on the occasion of his leaving to embark in business himself. ...

"■ Sergeant Gaffney, of the local force, who has been transferred to the District Office at Dunedin. was iarewelled by his comrades at the Lambton Police Station last evening, and made the recipient of. a handsome writing desk and travelling bag, as o partaa token of esteem. Sergeant Kelly made the presentation, and expressed the sentiments of the local force m felicitous terms. Speeches wore also made by Detective Kelly and Constable Gallagher. Sergeant Gaifney ,was previously;' employed in the Commissioners office. '
