JOTTINGS FROM WANGANUI.
(By Teleeraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganni, April 19. A movement is afoot to recognise the exertions of Mr.. Mantle, the 'fisherman, who rendered such good service in the recent boating fatality. It is proposed that a testimonial be subscribed, taking tho form of' a new boat. Father CShea, Vicar-General, is visiting Wanganui -to confer with peaii Qrogan ns tn tho future building policy of the'Raman Catholic Church here. The present church and convent buildings in Victoria Avenue are to be pulled down, so that the land iriay be leased for business purposes, and now buildings will bo erected on other sites, which have already been secured.
Owing to accumulation of storm water at low-lying places op tho tram routes having given somo trouble with the road bed, the Borough Council engineer is now considering the means of draining the same, so that water, which lies for a day or two in the same place, may be got rid of at once.
