In consequence of'the great scope of the society's operations the Minister for Justice had been-asked to recommend a pound for pound subsidy on sub-scriptions,-and had'replied that.the request was under consideration. The following special subscriptions had been received :—Horbwhenua County : Council, .£5 55.; Eangitikei - County Council, £5 ; Gisborno County Council, .£2 25.; Foxton County. Council, £1 Is. The balancesheet showed income ,£6945. 6d., expenditure, 17s. 7d. (including £U 'Is.' 5d.V paid to ex-prisoners),- and a credit" balance of .£32 Gs. lid. •:-■■:• The -report was adopted.
