Writing on board B.M.S- CorinUiiu, in the latitude.of Cape Horn, Dr. A..-W, M'Arthur, iii ,a letter to Mr. A. ■BL Holmes, clerk of the at Wellington, speaks enthusiastically of his holiday. The steamer. had had an excellent passage up till then, and both Mrs. STArthnr and himself were, at the time of writing, enjoying the best of health. ;
Mr. H. E. Hi Barnearis has been appointed private secretary to the Hon. A. Ngata vice Mr. Macalister, who is no* acting in a grnritar capacity to the Hon. E. irKemrie. , ,'
Mr. Hedley Jordan, a student at tia Normal Training College, Thoradon,; and an undergraduate. of Victoria College, died suddenly at a private hospital oa Monday evening. Deceased was very popular among his fellow students, and his unexpected demise was a great shock to his many' friends. He was parading with the Victoria' College Officers'' Training Corps on Monday afternoon at burnt Park, when he suddenly fell, apparently in a fainting fit. He was- aft . once removed to a private hospital, where he died about 6 o'clock that evening. Tha late Mr. Jordan is a native of Dovedala, Nelson, where his people reside, and was educated at Nelson College. He came to Wellington to equip. himself for the teaching professim, ana was a most promising student. As a . member of: ths Officers': Training Corps, he was an enthusiastic and regularly visited the range at Trentham.
•Sir James Mills was a passenger for the south last night by the Mararoa. The Hon. E. M*Kenzie, Minister for Public Works, was in Gisbome yesterday, and received some minor deputations. The Hon. Jas. Carroll, Minister for .Native Affairs, was also there yesterday* Both will' leave on Thursday for Wellington, via Wairoa.'—Press Association. .
