ARRIVAL IN WELLINGTON.
REMANDED TO PALMERSTON. ALLEGED THREAT TO SHOOT. (From Our Spccial Correspondent.) Palmerston North, April 18., The news of tho capture of Powelka . yesterday at Ashhurst spread like, wildfire, and there was a general sigh of relief when it became known that he' was once more safe under lock and key. There can bo no question tliat a very large proportion of the population of Palmerston, especially the women folk, were in a very nervous ; state while the man was at largo. ' This morning a representative, of Ike Dominion asked a weli-known Ashhurst resident, if that . township had got back to its normal state.' He replied that Ashhurst as a whole had been less agitated than other places closo handy. Ho gave Constable Watts/great credit' for the disposition .of - his men. • The constable ■ had, right' through the ipieoe, maintained that' Powelka . would return to ■ Ashhurst, and probably attempt to get into the houseof his brother-in-law, Mr. P. Hanlon. And it 6eoms the constable was perfectly correct in his anticipations. 7 In : connection ~ with the capture of Powelka, the police at Woodville adopted a very novel method of transmitting the news -to the outlying parts of the. district. The 1 ministers of the different, churches were notified, and they made the announcement to their congregations. NOT/COMMUNICATIVE. . *IHE ONLY THING I AH.SOEET ABOUT." (By.
