HALLEY'S COMET.
SOME FURTHER OBSERVATIONS. ; <By Telewann— Special CorresDondenU ; Wanganui,-April 18. The director of the Wanganui Obser*. vatory imports to-day, as lollows: —"Seeit upon a, clear ■ eky, Bailey's comet vraa quite a conspicuous object to the naked' eye, ar the observer was making his way to the observatory about 4.45 this morning. The comet was also by several' citizens through telescopes, it.revealed.a well-condensed nucleus of somewhat : ir« regular' form, indicative of the influence of the sun upon the most solid portieD of. it.' The tail stretched away_ in -a' continuous band, no cenh'al division being detected. It was about equal in ap-. pearance to a star' of the third magni* tude, and its increase in brilliancy dur. ing the last four days gives promise ol its ultimately making a very, imposing appearance. Early risers should scan the eastern ■ sky underneath ■' the bright planet Venus, when they will- see the comet, a little to- the south of an imaginary vertical line drawn through, the placet. Its tail is easily visible , stretching to the north. _. •; By an unfortunate typographical error the times of the setting of the sun and the comet, in one of the tables furnished by the Kev. Dr. Kennedy, and published yesterday, were transposed. The times Tiven for the setting of the comet really referred to the eon, and vice versa. ■■•-■.:
