The annual meeting of the parishioners of St. James's Church, Lower Hutt, was held in the schoolroom last evening,. the Eev. Joshua Jones occupying the chair. The report and- balance-sheet were adopted. ' ' It was decided to accord a,' vote of thanks to Mrs. Purdy and the collectors of the guild for services rendered. Mr. F. de J. , Clere was appointed clergyman's churchwarden, and Mr. Yeats parishioners' churchwarden. Tho .new vestry appointed was as follow Adams; Cuff, Ansbn,' Wilson, Eussell, H. C. Clere, Alexander, Avery, Staplos, and Evans. Mr. Gordon was appointed auditor. Mr. Wilson drew attention to the fact that certain ground had been left in the hands of three trustees, Messrs. Fitz,'nerbert, Cpllett, and Barraud.. Mr. Fitzherbert was dead, Mr. Collett had left the district,, and that left Mr. Bamud sole trustee. He thought that it ( was time that two more trustees were appointed. . Mr. Enssell thought that as Mr. Collett had nof resigned his position, although he had left the district, he was a trustee still.
. After some discusaon it was decided to request the transfer of the property to Messrs. F. de J. Clere, W. J. Cuff, and the present trustee. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. A' sitting of the Petono Police Court was held-yesterday, Messrs. R. Mothes sind E. J; Southgate, J.P.'r, presiding. Alfred Eenai, , charged with riding a bicycle without a light, was fined ss. and costs 7s. For using threatening words and behaviour in Jackson • Street, Albert M'Keon was fined 2Cs. and costs 7s. A charge against William Mullis for a similar offence was dismissed. W. Yan Foon was charged with a breach of the Sale of Food and Dnigs Act, 1908, in that he sold white pepper containing starch. This case was adjourned till May IC. The case of Webloy and Co., charged with tho same offence, was also adjourned till May IC. For driving a vehicle over the Akntarawa Bridge at other than a walking pace, G. Tamm was fined 55., costs 75., and solicitor's and witnesses' expenses 265. C. Carborry,.. similarly charged, was fined Is., costs 75., and solicitor's fee M Iβ. A like charge against G. Brocklehiirst was dismissed. In the civil cases, judgment was given for plaintiffs as follows:—John Sharp v. J. U. Clark (Mr. Smith), £1 18s. 2d., and costs 55.; F. G. E«id t. E.
