» OTAKI. Tho annual general meeting of tho Horowheuuo. Rugby Union was held on Wednesday evening at Manakau, Mr. J. C. Burns presiding. The report was considered very satisfactory, while tho .balance-sheet showed a small surplus of assets over liabilities, this being due to the energetic work of. Messrs. Coote and Douglas,Tho election of officers resulted Patron, Mr. B. R. Gardener; president, Sir. T. Bevan; to New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr. J. S. Fowler'; delegate to New Zealand Rugby■ Union, Mr. J. C. Burns; lion, secretary, Mr. Thorne; treasurer, Sir. Coote; selector, Mr. Fowler; auditors, Messrs. Gardener and M'lntyre; committee, Messrs. lluihi Weihepibana, Horo Karauti, Moynihan, Proctor, and M'Donald. Tho Rev. F. Rands, of Duncdin, arrived here on Thursday evening to take up work in connection with the Methodist Church. His predecessor, the Rov. C. B. Jordan, left for Motueka' during the afternoon. ' Friday's gale, although not nearly so bad as in other places, was a fairly severe one, and old fences were bowled over by the wind. The rain was heavy, but of short'duration. ' At _ Thursday's ■meeting of tho Levin-Ot-aki- Methodist circuit, a vote of sincere sympathy was extended to Mr. D. Judd and family iii their recent bereavement. There was a "fall in milk" on Saturday morning, when ■ a settler's horse bolted, smashed the conveyance, and otherwise did injury. CARTERTON. ■ ' Replying to an inquiry from tho secretary of the' Carterton Gun Club,. as to whether the shooting season was to_ be'open for a "month in this district, as in other districts, the secretary ■ ot the Wellington, Acclimatisation Society states that lie has been notified by tho Minister for Internal Affairs that he iiitends to gazette the- season in the district (including Carterton) from' May M. to Juno 14, 1910. In addition to 'the ordinary business, a notice of motion to alter tli'e period of -tho but-ter-fat contest from ten to six days will come up for consideration; The •General Committee of tho'South Wairarapa Poultry, Pigeon, and Cago Bird Association met on Friday, Mr. D. '! It will bo pleasing news to the many friends of Mr.\V. Fisher, of South Carterton, who' has been an inmate of tlio Masterton Hospital for a considerable period, to. hear that ho has recovered sufficiently as to bo ablo to leave tho institution. Next week Mr. Fisher will leave for Oxford, Canterbury, ou a hcalth-reoruiting holiday. ■ The wild weather, which has been tho lot of the town for the past few days, continued on Saturday, but fortunately was not very severe, and was'not followed by rain. CREYTOWN. VOn Friday evening last the - annual meeting of the Grcytown Town Lands Trust was held, and the baJance-shoet and. report duly presented and adopted. The twelve months' receipts amounted to £674 4s. 9d., and the balance forward to £153 175., making a total of £828 Is. 9d., which was expended in grants as. follow: —Greytown . High School, £135; Public Library, £90; recreation Reserve Fund, £10; Volunteer Fire Brigade, £10; ami loan on" mortgage, £350.' Messrs. Mark Maswn', P.. A. a'ud H.
