UNITED MISSION
YOUNG. MEN'S. ENEMIES. Two meetings wore held yesterday in. connection with the united mission which is being conducted by Dr. J. Q. .A. Henry in the Town Hall. . The afternoon meeting ..was for. men, only, .and was attended by about 1200. A male choir led ,the singing. Mr. C. A. Potts sang, two solos. Dr. Henry's address was on "The Slaughter of Young Men." He dealt in forceful terms with three, great evils, which he said were deeply injuring the morals ( of yonng men. These , were the drink evil, gambling, and impurity. In regaid to t3ie .first, he ; enlarjged on the necessity of personal abstinence. No man who touched liquor ! was safe. There was a saloon in Chicago. which bore on its sign the words, ."The Front Door of Hell." The inscription _ had been placed there in bravado, but it rean actual faot. He did not know how. it was in this country, but in the United States the saloon had a' gambling den on one side of it and a brothel on the otiier. Whether that was literally so in this country or not ho had no doubt that it was so in a metaphorical sense. The drink evil was always associated with the other two. The gambler was, moreover, a very foolish person. A. very small proportion of the "straight tips" in racing proved correct. Gambling was also a form of dishonesty. Money won in that way was not fairly'earned. On the subject of impurity, Dr. Henry's remarks were equally direct. During his address the audience repeatedly burst into spontaneous applause, and at the close a large number stood up in response to an appeal for personal confession of Christian faith. '- '
-There mnst have been more than 3000 people at the aiter-churoli rally at 8.30 p.m. The hall was crowded in every part. Dr. Henry's address was devoted to an .exposition of duty of open discipleship. . During a special appeal for testimonies, Mi;..' Potts sang "You mnst do Something with Jesus." Very many responded openly, to the preacher's appeal for declarations of faith.
. To-night's meeting will begin at 8 o'clock, and'will be preceded by-a song •service at 7.30.
