PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondents Palmerston North, April 17. The funeral of the late : Mi's. F. ■Waldegrave, who died . suddenly at Rotorua, took place at the Terrace End oemetery yesterday afternoon, the remains having been brought to Palmerston for interment.- ; The Police and' Justice Departments were represented in the cortege by Messrs. A. D. Thompson, S.M., and C. J. Hewlett, clerk of the Court; Inspectors Wilson and-Elli-son, and Sub-Inspector O'Donovan. The coffin was covered with a number of beautiful wreaths, several having been sent from Wellington, including tributes from the Hon. Dr. Findlay and the Justice and Police Departments. The man Norman Williamson,' who was convicted in the Police Court here of stealing a portmanteau from a board-ing-house, and was remanded for-the probation officer' 6 report, turns out' to have' sorved a previous sontence for theft at Christchurch. Sergt. Cruickshank produced a portrait of one Norman Manson, which at first accused denied was his, but afterwards ho ad ; initted lie-was the -man. He was sen> ! tenced to three months' hard labour f<» stealing the portmanteau.
