[Bx Mainshbit.] Last Saturday afternoon tie Port Nicholson Yacht. Club held its last race for Oho season. At the start of the race there was a good tijo-reef. breeze coming from the north. . The Janet, White Heather, and lolanthe were the only three yachts to get away up to timo. Tho Viking, Rawene, and Taipare dropped out of. the race when about half way around, and the Lizzie did not start on account of her handicap. The Janet got away first, but was overtaken by ( lolanthe on tho lead to Point Halawell , .' After ronndrag HalsweU, Janet shook out her reefs, amd regained her lead, rounding the Pinnacles first. The second yacnt to round the Pinnacles was the lolanthe, she being followed by the White Heather. '■ On the beat to Koro Koro Janot carried away her bobstay, wthich, however, was fixed up temporarily. Koro Koro buoy was rounded in the following order:—Janet first, White Heather next second, . and lolanthe last. Spinnakers were used on the run home. The wind freshened when the little flotilla was off Kaiwarra to a single reef breeze, which made the yachts'fly along in great style, the race being eventually won by Janet, which takes the silver cup presented by Messrs. Walker and Hall. . • ' ■- ■
' Sunday turned out very madh tire same 'sort of day as Saturday, a good hard northerly holding all day. Several yachts and launches niode for Somes Islam), where an enjoyable day was spent. The following . yachts were as the island :— Janet, Viking, Kawene, Karaka, and May. Three launches were also there, viz.— Swap, Veronica, end Pnrini. The Siren, White Heather, and a few others were at Scorching Bay. When tho Rawene was homeward bound her throat halyards carried away, but tie boat got home under her jigger and head&aile, and some assistance from a launch. The Winder Cup, which was presented (o the-To Aro Sailing Club by' Mr. G. Winder, for competition, among tho club's fleet, has been won by Mr. H. Highett's E-cdwng, with 95 points. Rivul uamo second with 88 points, and Ishmael third with 86 points. Points secured by tho other boats were as follow:—Lotus 70, Ramhlor 43, Doreen 58, Valota 52, Nan ■i(i, and Winifred 31. . A challcngo has been received by the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria from the Prince Alfred Yacht Club, Sydney, for a contest for the Sayonara Cup, to take place next year. The challenger named is Messrs. Albert and Sayors's Rawhiti. This boat when owned by Mr. C. Brockholt', was tho challenger in tho season 1007-8, and was defeated by Sayonara in both races sailed. Hornew owners have inudo certain alterations, including n now and Inrgnr suit of I*i.pthorne sails, and aro confident that she is now much faster than she was in 1008. A proposal appeared in the Agenda paper at tho. annual meeting of the Yacht [facing Association, London, to (he effect tliiit in future nil racing yachts should carry numbers in their mainsails.
