A donor, whose name is not disclosed, has," says the "Times," "offered to the ■ British , Academy a' sum of £500 a year for at- least three years to term the -nucleus of: a fund' for. the furtherance of research and criticism .in inghsli literature. He suggests that his gift should provide for the establishment of an annual Shakespearean oration or lecture, an annual lecture on Mglish poetry, and a gold medal to be awarded on rare occasions to-com-memorate exceptional achievement or pre-eminent merit in any branch of Migish learning specified under' tho fund." .
