Harte, jn which that gentleman declared .that closer' settlement was bringing about a, marked -deterioration in* thu sheep flocks of New. Zealand. Speaking on the subject; tq a . jDoiliNlpJf. Representative last nighV the' Minister, for Agriculture (Mr. Mackenzie)-"said he thought Mr. Harte took an unduly pessimistic view of the situation. A good answer to the complaints made was to, be .found, Mr. Mackenzie continued, in "a copy of' the, "Statist" which ho had just been road-ing.-'~.'ln; its issue"of;' February 12 that paper bad an articlo on the wool trade, and in the course of it it said: "The clip from New Zealand,'.tho first portion of which has A been offered at this series, is splendidly, grown, being brighter and somewhat' longer in staple than for some years, and all this is in favour of the article' meeting with'ih increased demand." This, the Minister thought, hardly bore, out the : -criticism that had been made. . '
