PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(By TeleeraDh.-SDecial Oorreroondant.l Palmerston North, April 14. A thunderstorm struck Palmerston at threo o'clock this afternoon, and very heavy rain fell for about an hour, when the weather cleared up. At time of telegraphing (9 p.mj the sky is perfectly clear and bright.
A signivriter named A. Tew met with a serious accident this afternoon in a building in the Square, on which he was engaged painting a' sign. Hβ had occasion to come down from the building, and had descended to the, second floor, when he slipped,' and fell through 'a skylight, coining down about 20 feet on to a concrete floor in the alleyway in Waldegrave Buildings. Medical assistance was called, and it was found that the unfortunate man had sustained serious injuries. He was removed to the hospital. He has only been in the Dominion a comparatively short, time, having arrived troin Home about 12 months ago: '~'
An inquest was held this evening, before Mr. A. D. Thomson, coroner, touching the death of a woman named Alice Searle, who expired suddenly last night at the house of a/ Chinaman named Willie Sing. It appears sho had been living at Pahiatua, and only came to Palinerston .three or four days ago. A verdict of death from heart disease was returned.
A team from the Technical School Hockey Club went out to Fitzharbert East yesterday afternoon, and played a match with the local club. The country team won the game by four goals to three.
