A fairly large amount, of .wheat is now being placed on the market, but' tho greater part is of indifferent quality, owing to having'been exposed to-the weather during tho harvest.!' Merchants are very chary.' about' purchasing with a 1 view to shipment, .as in many instances the' quality of the grain is such as' to make filiipment risky.. As has been the case for some weeks, there is .a wide ranee of prices. Very be6t ouality milling wheat, of. which the amount on offer is vary scanty, is selling up to 3s. 9d./at convenient country stations, while fowl and badly damaged linos have changed hands as low as - 2s. ■ 9d. The • bulk' of the wheat sold during the week has been on the b'aEis 'of 3s. 4d. to 3s.' 7d. on trucks at country stations. The oat , market is slightly weaker, but prices are unchanged. Increased supplies of potatoes are now being placed on the market, ;tho quality all round being satisfactory, while the yields are reported to bo quite up to expectations. The dauiaso ; done by the blight, varies considerably; 'according to the locality in which thc : potatoes are grown, but all round the harm done'has not materially affected most of the crops.
