WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. COMPLAINT RE FIRST ROUND • . FIXTURESThe weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Uniou was held last evening, and was attended by Messrs. S. Brown (chairman), W. Hardham, J. O'Sullivan, W.Perry, J. Hums, E. 0. Hales, P. C. Peters, J. Purvis, and A. B. Wilson. The committee accepted the offer of Ivarori Borough Council to grant tho use of threo grounds on the ICarori Recreation Reserve for the season, at a rental of «£IO each. Members agreed that a senior match should he played at Kavori as often as possible. Mr. Burns expressed the opinion that, in a couple of years, these would be the best grounds about Wellington. The Wellington Referees' Association notihed that. Messrs. W. Spsncer, W. Roberts, and ,1. ffown would represent th(i association on the Appointment Board of the Union. Owing to shortage of players, the Polfull Club wrote withdrawing both teams from tho competition. A letter \yas received from the Hutt Borough Council, agreeing to increase to seven the number of days during the season on which the uniou might make a • charge for admission to the Recreation Ground, the union to nay the council 33 l-3rd per cent, of tho gross gate •"aJcings. ,The committee expressed appreciation of the generous treatment meted out by the council. A requisition signed bv 15 delegates was handed in, the petition being that special general meeting of the union , should be convened for the purnose of i considering the action of the Manage* ' mont Committee in regard to the drawing for the first round of tho senior championship. Tt was pointed out that only seven clubs wore represented by signatories, whereas the rule stated that one-fourth of the total number of clubs (ft) must be represented. It was resolved therefore that tho petitioners be notified that another mme was necessary. The (latn of tho special meeting was fixed for Friday week. MANAWATU "RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Manawatn Rugby Union was held this week, the president, Mr. E. D. Hoben, being in tho chair. It was decided to arrange with the A. and P. Association for the use of . the grounds and gymnasium on the samo terms as last year; also for tho use of dressing-rooms, and the ' removal of the fence'of the oval back a few yards, as this was too close to tho goal, line, and a source of danger to players. The appointment of a selector or selectors was held n-er.
It was decided that entries for the cup compctitionts should close on April 19 at 5 p.m., and that cup matches should begin on May 7. Mcssts. P. Pirani and W. E. Hawkins were appointed to draw up the. fixtures. The Referee;,' Association is to be asked to report on players : showing greater proficiency than is consonant with the class in which they happen to be playing, this course being taken with a view to their transfer to a higher grade.
It was resolved to favourably consider the matter of giving clubs who. play matches with visiting clubs a share of the gate proceeds. ■'■'■.
Tho affiliation of the Rongotea Club was agreed to, and it was decided to invite the Referees' Association to' appoint a member to tho Management Committee.
ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington I'!ootbnll.-..Asso-ciation was held in tne Y;M.C.A."Eootus .last evening, Mr- B. L. Salmon presiding. There'were also present: Messrs.- J, Bavidsoh, R. Al'Kay, M. Oilier, H. Mayer, S. Paton, J.' Pye-S'mith, H. M'Keowen, and A. Williams (secretary). The .Diamond' Club wrote withdrawing their fifth division team, as they are unable to get a full team owing to a number of the players. having been drafted into other clubs. Tho St. Augustine's Club stated that they had been able to obtain the use of Mr. Maidmentfs ground for tho season. Tho club hope to have the. ground in order by Saturday. The Petone Borough Council advised that the association could have tho us© of No. i Petone recreation ground. It was' decided to accept the -use of Seatoun Park for the season on. terms set out by the Miramar Borough Council. . Tho Y.M.C.A. Club wrote entering a team for: the .'Wednesday competition. The Island Bay Club entered one team for the fifth league and one team.for the sixth league. The club asked that its colours, black jersey and white collar aud band, should bo registered. It was decided to register these colours on tho understanding that the club should play in a distinctive colour when they meet Diamonds, whose colour is black The Berhampore Baptist Church Bible Class Club was admitted to affiliation, and entered a team for the second division competition. Tho.Y.M.C.A. Club wrote suggesting that all sixth-class matches should bo played in town. .The letter was referred to the Boys' Sub-Committee. Mr. Auld forwarded his resignation from the committe on account of pressure of business, which will keep him engaged during the evenings for the next two months. It was decided that Mr.. Auld's resignation should not be accepted, but that he should bo granted leave of absence for ten meetings. Mr. Salmon reported that tho Boysl Sub-Committee considered that in view qf tho fact that there are fifteen teams in for the fifth division competition, this grado should be split up into two divisions, "A" and "B," so as to make tho working of the competition more simple. It was decided to cut the competition up into two divisions as suggested. The. number of teams which' have entered for tho various competitions to date are:—First division 7, second division .12, third C, fourth 14, fifth 15, pixth ,8. Kvo teams have entered for tho Wednesday competitions to date, but entries for this competition are still coming in. The secretary stated that all the grounds were ready, and arrangements had been made whereby several of the grounds which were too small last season have been enlarged.
It was decided that two rounds should be played in the first division competition. Two rounds will also be played in the third, fifth, and sixth divisions, and one in the second and fourth divisions. Tho matter of arranging for a representative boys' team to visit Dunedin is to bo taken in hand immediately tho various club competitions were fairly started.
Owing to the Diamond fifth "B grade team having withdrawn from the conir petition, 'Wndeslown, who were to have played Diamonds on Saturday, will now meet Kamblcrs.
