CHARGE OF STEALING MONEYORDERS.
!■'.,; . —-—4——■■.;■; -.'■; TWO YOUTHS PLEAD GUILTY, 'i (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dunedin, April 13. At the Police Court to-day two youths named Robert Britlain Shepherd and Jasi Wilson pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing out of a postal' package four money-orders for the sum of .£7l 17s. 6d. The evidence showed that an American tourist named Robert Anld Shepherd arrived here last December, and arranged to have 350' dollars.sent out 1 to him in the form of ■ money-orders, the letter be- : ing addressed to the local post office..On arrival he called three times for the letter, and the third'. time was informed that the orders had been cashed. :It appears that the accused, Shepherd, obtained delivery of the letters and cashed the . orders, He was identified by Wilson as being Robert Shepherd. After obtainingthe money accused became frightened and went to Australia, but after spending the ■■■ money returned and voluntarily surrendered to the police. Mr. Adams, who appeared for Wilson, said he had advised accused that no jury would convict him on the evidence offered, but accused refused to take advantage of the situation, saying he had come back to bear whatr , over responsibility should rest on hiiri. Both accused were committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence. ■ ■;. ', • . Mr. Ronayne (general manager of the New Zealand Railways), Mr. Buxton (chief traffic manager),. Mr. Beattie. (chief mechanical 'engineer), and Mr. Burnett (chief engineer) are at present conducting the annual inspection in connection with tho Wellington-New Plymouth line.
