' , A depntation from tbe Palmerston High School Board of Governors waited on the Hon. G. Fowlda, Minister.for. Education, at the Palmerston railway station this afternoon to ask for assistance in connection with tbe re-erection,of the buildings lately destroyed by fire. ; Mr. D. Buick, M.P., introduced the deputation, and Mr. AV. H. Collingwood, chairman of the board, explained the position very fully. Mr. W. Rutherfurd.. also spoke. The Minister said lie was in full sympathy with the deputation, but was not in a, position to make any definite promise; He thought tbe building should be reinstated in brick, but he thought the estimate produced by the deputation was higher, than was warranted. He suggested that alternative tenders in wood and brick should be called before a decision on this point was come to. He recognised it was a case where the Government should assist. He would give the depntation ! a definite reply as early as possible, and ■ would do all in his power to further their request.
