I:' •■'' ■■-..' *~~ —~ '■ MOTHER/COLLAPSES. ;ON HEARING OF SON'S DEATH. , A sudden death was reported yesterday from Brooklyn. Mrs. Amy Heron, who had arrived from Auckland on Monday night, and who was Btaying. with a relative, Mrs. Hamilton, of Reuben Avenue, Brooklyn, on being informed of the death of her only child, collapsed and died at 7.15 yesterday morning. Mrs; Heron had been in poor health for some time'past,- and her ten-year-old son had died in the Wellington Hospital on Sunday night, after having been in the in:' stitation for two or three days. His trouble was diphtheria, The 'lad had been staying with his grandmother at Brooklyn. It .is reported that Mrs. Heron, on learning of. the boy's illness, postponed an operation which Bhe was to have undergone, and came at once from Auckland, in order to be near her son. An inquest will be held' at the morgue this morning. • FRACTURED SKULL. A single man, C. H. Williams, who resides in Victoria Street, Lower Hutt, met with an accident yesterday, sustaining a fractured skull. Particulars of the mishap are not ascertainable, but it is known that Williams was employed at a Belmont stone-crusher. He was brought, in to the Wellington Hospital at five o'clock yesterday afternoon, and is reported to be doing fairly well. His injury is not considered dangerous.' OUT OF.DANGER. The tramway man, James Ford, of Eiddiford Street, who was found by his wife iii the houso on Monday night with his,throat cut, is. reported, to be doing well, under hospital treatment. His condition is not serious. COLLISION AT ISLAND BAT. A motor-car arid a milk-cart collided with some force on the Island Bay Eoad yesterday morning, and both vehicles were considerably damaged. Henry Budd, of Bennett Street, and Charles Thompson, of Foatherston Street, who were in the motor-car, received a severe shaking, and were conveyed to the Hospital for treatment. It appears that Thompson is 'suffering slightly from shock, and both are sufioring from minor injuries. Neither, however, is seriously hurt. SUDDEN DEATH. (Bj TolcKranh.—Press Association.! Christchurch, April 12. T. Osborne, a young mau whoso parents aro residing at Clarke Hill, Victoria, died suddenly at Methven to-day. Ho was apparently in good iioalth yesterday. BODY FOUND. Christchurch, April 12. The body of a man was found floating >in Lyttelton harbour this morning. It had evidently been in tho water many weeks, and it is surmised that the body was that of a man drowned whilo bathing. Thero has been no leccnt accident of tho kind at Lyttelton, but it is suggested that tho body may be that of the second of two lads named Leo, drowned on the New Brighton bench on February li.
