Hardly any interest centred in the race on this side of the Tasman Sea, it being looked- upon: as almost a certainty, barring accidents, for the champion. The pluck, resolution, and rowing ability of little George Whelch . were recognised, but his judgment, or that of his backers, in making the match, was questioned.
