The committee bas investigated the whole.matter, but could find nothing irregular in either sampling or testing, an.d decided to pay the prize....A third sample tested 11.0. .Samples have been forwarded toMr. O'Callaghan, the dairy expert, to test.- Tho second cow, Mr. Johnston's Dairymaid, Winner of three previous competitions, gave 3.191b., equal to 231b. per week, which is well, up to the best Australian records. .-There, were ten entries,, all. Commentin.ij on these figures, Hie Sydney "Daily Telegraph" says the amount of commercial butter yielded by these co.ivs is not by way of being a world's record,, but tho butter-fat test is considerably higher than'anything yet recorded— or, at any rate, authenticated. Tho figures-siiggest-ithe boom days of the Jersey, when it seemed.as though the making of would become monotonous. There is a well-authenticated story of a ; cow named Princess 2nd, who had to bo milked three times a dajv'becausa her udder would not , hold the milk she made in 12' hours. Her. test■ resulted in/ayield'in .seven days' of 29911b. milk, from which were churned 441b. Uoz. of -nn- , salted, butter, which, when salted at tho 'rate of loz. to the-pound,'gave 461b. 12J6z; of salted butter ready, for. market. If is.onlynece&sary to/analyse these figures to-show how extraordinary they are. : . The equivalent of 461b. 121'oz. of butter is 40.091b.'. butfer-fat from 299|1b. milk; this' , is 13.4 per cent.
