The refusal of the application by the Napier Borough Council to the State Advances Board for moneys for various purposes was the subject of an interview which Mr. J. Vigor Brown, M.P.; and Mr. ]?. Bee (a councillor) had with the l'rime Minister yesterday.. Sir Joseph stated definitely that no moneys could bo advanced for the purposes of a theatre or for tramways. There is reported to be a remarkably large number, of typhoid cases in Christchurch just now, and, several local doctors report that they have now more patients suffering from this disease than they have had for many years. One doctor attributed this to the seasonal changes, and tho naturally bad drainage in Christchurch. He said that the present drainage system did all that it was required to. do, but in a fiat city like Christchurch special arrangements should be made to have all tho drainage taken away.
