M'Kenzie's recent statement that last year's combined .road and railway vote for the North'lsland , exceeded that of the South, .the "Herald" says: "South Island influences have too long dominated the Cabinet and public works expenditure, and united action is apparently the only way to secure for the North Island its fair share of votes. It is not so much a question of what has been expended in the two islands dur-' ing the last few years, as to what extent the South Island has benefited for the last thirty or forty years compared with the North. Surely it is time the North Island made up some of the leeway." - ' :
