Davidson, Inspector-General of Public Works, embodying a scheme _of harbour improvements prepared by Sir ; William Matthews, the well-known en- ; gineer and a member of the firm of, Coade, Son/and Matthews, has beeft; submitted to Cabinet. ■-. . :.^". The report condemns .the, short-out soheme recommended by Mr.W. Fergu- : son, of Wellington. It recommends a new pier at the point where Mr. Ferguson recommended a short pier. The pier is to be 1800 ft. long and 210 ft. wide, affording accommodation for four of the largest liners likely to come here,;. Exclusive of railway lines and con-, nections, the pier would co3t £370,000* The ' report' provides for the construotion, later on, of other piers. ;
