PEER-MAKING POWER
KING'S POSITION. SHOULD LIBERALS ASK HIM FOR AN "ASSURANCE"? SOME UNIONIST STATEMENTS. By Telßcraph-Prens Aesociation-Conjrlehl., (Rec. April 10, 5 p.m.) . London, April 9. ' The "Spectator," the "Standard," and other newspapers /indicate that moderate Liberals are objecting to the King, on the eve of the dissolution, being asked to give an assurance that he will create Peers if the Liberals gain a victory at the elections. The Chief Liberal Whip, the Master of Elibank, in a speech at Manchester, declared that a crisis would arise from the , hour when the Government was notified of the House of Lords' rejection of the first veto resolution and shelving of the others. That subterfuge would be equivalent to the rejection of both the veto resolutions and the Budget. . . WILL NOT WASTE TIME WITH .. BILL. London, April 8. In the House of Commons, the Prime Minister, Mr. Asquith, replying to criticisms regarding the Government's intentions, made it clear that unless the House of Lords' decision on, the veto resolutions was satisfactory, the Government did not intend to waste the time of the House of Commons in discussing the Bill'which it was proposed to base on those resolutions.
