ST. JOHN'S DEBATING SOCIETY
At the annual meeting of the St. John's Literary and Debating Society the report showed that during the past year the society held two debates with other clubs, one against Karori, resulting in a win for St. John's, and the other against Victoria College, resulting in a win for the University team by a narrow margin. Tho oratorical competition in connection with the society was won by Mr. H. B. Reid, with Mr. F. Redgrave second, anad Messrs. H. Newberry and D. Patterson occupied like positions in respect to tho highest average number of marks for tho session. ■ ■■■'• Tho election of officers for tho incoming year resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. A. P. Webster; president, Rev. Jas. Gihh, D.D.; vice-presidents, Messrs. Wm. Gray, M.A., B.Sc., J. S. Butler, J. Boal, G. A. Troup, and C. S. Moore; secretary, Mr. H. B. Reid; treasurer, Mr. G. Haase; committee, Messrs. D. Douglas, G. Robertson, C. I.Hudson, and 0. X. Andrew.
