RIFLE SHOOTING.

TERRITORIALS V. KARORI RIFLEMEN. WIN FOR KARORI. About 160 riflemen went out to the mounds at Trontham on Saturday, when various matches were fired. Tho principal events were the annual match between the Wellington Rifle Battalion and tho Karori Rifle Clnb, a teams' competition, twenty men aside, and the intercompany competition, for tho Battalion Shield. It so happened, however, that, owing to press of railway traffic occasioned by the races at Trentham, the shooting-men were not able to make a punctual start at the range, as their train was late. Only one of, the three distances in the Battalion Shield match was completed, and the final decision of this competition was therefore left for some future date, to be fixed by tho Officer Commanding the Battalion. In the teams' match between the Karori riflemen and the battalion, two, out of tho three distances, were completed, and it was agreed to decide the honours on the results of these, and close the competition. It was a close contest. The battalion team wore 13 points ahead of their opponents on the completion of tho 200 yards range, but at 500 yards tho Karori men spurted determinedly, and rose, from the mound with a margin of one point \ to spare on the total scores, haying, beaten the Territorials by U points at the longer range. Rifleman W. G. Tarr made top score for his side., and secured a possible at 500 yards. Private Given, of the City Rifles, made top score for the battalion with a handsome total of 65 (33—32). In the shooting for the Battalion Shield, the Guards and the Civil Service Rifles tied with 431 points each. Captain P. de B, Brandon was in charge of the range, and was assisted by Captain Beere and Lieut. Chappie. Details of the scoring are as follow:- • .. KARORI RIFLE CLUB V. BATTALION.
