Frank Pcttengell pleaded not guilty ' to a charge of having ill-treated ahorse by working the, animal while it was suffering from a sore wither. On the application of Mr. Jackson, who appeared for Pettengell, the case was adjourned till April 15. The horse is to be inspected by, his Worship to-day. A BOGUE AND A VAGABOND. . Wm. Suckling pleaded guilty to a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, having been found, on April 8, at; 10.15, p.m., without lawful oxcuee in a house in. Charlotte Street, the property of Louisa: Rowe. He said he had no funds, but was- prepared to walk back to the country. He was dismissed with a caution. INSOBRIETY. One first offender "was convicted' on a charge of drunkenness, aid wa-s discharged. '■■;•'.■ _Chailes Hill, once previously convicted for drunkenness, explained, in explanation of his second appearance for that offence, that he had sprained his foot, his wife was away for a fortnight, and he had taken too much drink. , Bis wife was due home that afternoon, and if he were looked in she would be locked out. His Worship dealt leniently with him, and let him off. Twice previously convicted, Richard Evans, was fined 155., with tlie option of three daye' imprisonment, for his third conviction for insobriety.
