LACROSSE.
(CoNTniBDTED BY R.L.J.) Last season the public were treated on a small scale to a very fair exposi-. tion of lacrosse, for the reason that the game was new to this country—they did not take such a deep interest in the game as the players themselves. Whilst that was so, still, those responsible for tho advancement of lacrosso achieved more than expected results, and the writer, in conversation with one of the leading players hore, obtained < some interesting information regarding the possible future of lacrosse. It is satisfactory to note that the clubs have worked hard to prove their men's capabilities in so short a space of time, and tho public are promised some interesting and exciting games during this present season. "Is it not possible," asked tho player in question, "that plenty of men who do not take part in football will join the lacrosse ranks? And do yon not consider lacrosse a rough and dangerous game?" Not at. all. With the exception of a slight knock last season, I enjoyed the game immensely. It must go ahead, and we want all the support possible to help assist the meo in the rank of players,.
The annual meeting was held recently, and Mr. Levvey- was elected chairman, and Mr. M'Govcrn secretary. The meeting made recommendations to the Management Committee in regard to getting a team into training prior to its visiting Auckland as a representative match with the Auckland province is in view. A social will shorttly he held to raise funds for expenses towards the team's tour north. There will be four teams in the field locally, and combination should be strong, as the membership has greatly increased this season. TO-DAY'S GAMES. Kelburae, the runners-up last year, meet Wellington at Duppa Street. . Capitals, the winners of the competition last season, will play against Columbia, hut the ground had not been decided upon at time of writing. It is rumoured that Mr.. W. J. Proud, jeweller, Sydney, will offer a "cup" for competition in New Zealand. This being so, further interest will be created, amongst Now Zealand players The water, personally, would like to offer his encouragement to local players, as a noticeable "lift" has taken place. The' men are doing good work, and deserve' every help in their endeavour to bring prominently before the public such an interesting, healthy, clean sport as lacrosse. ,
