'An inquest on the body, of James Carter, aged 19 years,-who' shot himself at Sawyer's Bay, on Tuesday night, was .held'to-day. The evidence showed that deceased boarded some months ago with a Mrs. Ireland. He visited her house on. the day of his.death and, while she was out milking. cows, he ■shot himself with a pea-rifle. In the course of evidence, Mrs. Ireland said she did not, untilabout three weeks ago, know that, there was scandal .about deceased coming to her.house. Deceased told her.his mother had kicked.hiih out of his home. Mr. Plattß read the following note found'in deceased's pocket and addressed to Mrs. Ireland:—"You have been veTy funny -this .last two, days and Lean stand'it no longer. You have treated me like a dog, 1 so I an better dead.—Yours no longer, Jas. Carter." Witness • said there' were no grounds whatever ■ fot. deceased' writing that note. The only explanation witness could make of the memo, found on tho deceased was that she had told him not to corae to' ! her house again as his mother objected., Other. evidence was given to tie. effect that Mrs. Irelaud was a respectable hard-working woman who supported her five children solely by her own exertions. A verdict was returned that- deceased died ; from a bullet-wound in the right temple self-inflicted by. means of a pearifle. >'",'.;■"'■;" '.■.:.
