Akers, a local resident, gave an: interesting address to fiaxniillers to-day regarding his investigations into the flax industry: during his recent, four of the world. He urged the rawing of a fund, subsidised by the Government, to encourage inventors, and also that the Government be asked £2000 originally on tho intimates for that purpose. He gave an account of the result of the experiments by Dr. Norman, of the German Agricultural Department, in tho treatment of flax, .whereby it can be made as flexible in texture as silk, and can be. dyed any colours, making beautiful dress material. A special meeting of the New Zealand Flaxmffiers' Association will be held shortly to consider the various suggestions mado by Mr Akers.
