' The Shaw, Savill steamer Kia Ora, from London, via Auckland and Gisborne, is due to arrive here on-Saturday, when, explosives will'be discharged in the stream, prior to berthing. •Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. advise that the Star of Australia is at present loading at Napier. On completion the vessel comes on to Wellington, the final loading port prior to sailing Homeward bound. Telegraphic advices from Greymouth, received at the Union Company's office yesterday morning, announced the arrival of the Arahura and Ngahere at that port. The Ennerdale, Kittawa, Rakanoa, and Poherua were lying outside, unable to get in on account of the condition of the bar, a condition which was responsible for the imprisonment of the Petone, Kotuku, and Kamona inside the bar. •

As a direot outcome of the acquisition by, the Government of. the entire system of wirelese telegraphy in the United Kingdom, a step of great, importance to mar-' ine underwriters and shipowners has just been taken by Lloyd's. This corporation, undor an agreement with the Post Office, is now receiving Reports of vessels' movements for the use of members. Indeed, tho whole business of "wireless telegraphy in shipping matters is moving, forward very fast just now. Efforts are now being made, both in England and the United States, to make the installation of tKe' system compulsory on all' ocean-going steamers that carry passengers. So far as the North Atlantic is concerned, during tho last six months of last year'of the 282 vessels which carried steerage passengers to and from United States ports, no ft*.*cr than 143 had wireless installations. • Tho Pacific Ocean connections are now, receiving'attention, and, apart from the Canadian and American, coasts, where; there are few places of importance without the system; it is reported that the various ialande in the Pacific are soon to be linked to. Australia and New Zealand by wireless.
