OPIUM-SMOKING.
A EAID IN HAINING STBBET.
Last evening Sergeant. Entledge and Constable Mlvelvie paid a surprise visit to a house in Haimng Street. It is, alleged . that opium-smoking was going on there, and they arrested a Chinaman who will appear at the Magistrate's Court this morning to answer charges of smoking opium and being found with opium in his possession. Three other Chinese were .in the room, and soon after tho entry of the police, • a keenly-interested crowd of Orientals collected in the street outside, but the sergeant and constable Wet with no active abstraction.
