GENERAL FARMING NEWS,
At tho first meeting of the East Coast Rabbit Board, held in Gisbome a few days ago, it was. decided that tho necessary stops should bo taken to strike a rate of 4-16 th of a penny in the £ over the stock in tho whole district and ith of a penny </ctra on the stock- included in the infested area, which includes all land on tho south side of the Wairoa and Waikare-Taheke River as well as Galatea, Whakatane, and Opotiki. This should give the board a revenue of about £7000. The number of sheep included in the area is 2,247,011 and cattle 122,825, which, according to the Act gives a total rating capacity of equal to 3,032,131 sheep. It. was also decided to have rabbitproof gates put on various bridges in the district. .. The Feilding Fruitgrowers' Association had planned a visit to tho Wairoa Experiment' Farm for this week,' but on the advice.of the Secretary for Agriculture it was decided'to defer the visit until next season, as the time for seeing the farm at its best is now past.- ■ Several _ properties hive changed hands at "Nornianby lately (says the Hawera "Star"). '■ Mr. J. Cassidy has sold' his 27 acres to an Okaiawa investor; and.".Mr. .Roots 'his';.farm of 36 acres', the price in both instances being £50 per acre. .
For the first threo months this year 1ir.054 fat sheep were trucked at the Feilding railway station, an. increase of 7278 on tho same period last year, which was also the largest on record. —Press Association.
