AGAINST CRUELTY.
The committee of the Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals held its regular meeting yesterday afteruoo,n > Mr. J. Jamieson presiding. The following donations were reported :—N.Z. Warehousemen's Association, £2 25.; Kenipthorne, Prosser, and Co., £1 Is.; "A Friend," £!■■ M'Leod, Weir, and Hopkirk, 10s. 6d.; Miss Harris, 10s.; Dr. Cahill and Dr. H. M'Lean, ss. each; Mise Allen, Mesdamos E. Richardson, E. B'. Brown Messrs. W. G. Mantell, and C. Gardiner, os. each; Mesdames Dumbell, Godber, Kendall, Rev. Dumbell, Messrs. T. Pago, A. Robertson, .and Piko, 2s. od. each; "M.R.F.," 2s. A letter was received from the City Council, intimating that no provision could yet bo mado for destroying cats at tho lethal chamber of tlio destructor. Difficulty having boon experienced in obtaining tho assistance of the Government veterinarians in cases of cruelty to horses, Inspector Seed was instructed to supply a full report on the position of tho socioty in the matter.
A long letter from a person against whom allegations of cruelty to a horso had boon mado, was read, and it was decided that-tho caso (whioh had been discussed at tho previous meeting) should be again referred to 'Solicitors.
