LEGISLATION ASKED FOE.
(By TeleErann-Press Association.) Christchurch, April A. As a result .of the 'recent attempt to abolish the locker system at the Sydenham Workuigmen's Club the mover in the matter, ■Mγ. A. Avery,.,was expelled from membership. At.'a public meeting convened by Mr. Avery and • held to'night the following. motions proposed by Mr v Avery were carried almost unanimously :—"That the attention of the Colonial Secretary bo drawn to.tho exposure by Mr. Avery of the recent conduct of the Sydenham and Addington Workingmen's .Club, and that he. be requested to' take such steps as may be necessary.to end tho scandal; that the Governments, attention be drawn to the abuse of Sunday drinking through the medium of the locker system, and that legislation be introduced for the abolition of the same throughout the Dominion, thus placing clubs on even terms with public houses." Only one hand was held .up in opposition to-this motion.'
