[By Glen'coe.l ' Guianforte, Formless, and Salute havo been scratched : for , all.' engagements at tie Wellington Racing Club's Autumn meeting. , .. i ' Jockey H. Cairns will not leave for Australia until after the Trentham races. . ■ ' H. Cutts is expected to arrive from Riccarton to-morrow morning with those of Sir Goo. Clifford's, horses that are to raco at Trentham next week. The pony Lady Paul (St. Paul —Lady Chester) was shipped to Sydney yesterday, and will compote at the pony meetings there. Acceptances for the first day's events at the Wellington Racing Club's meeting close to-night with the secretary, Mr.,A. E. Whyte, ... . A trotting horse' named Young Kentucky, (by Kentucky) • was shipped to Sydney yesterday by thq, Ulimaroa. His 'ultimate'destination-'■ is Kalgoorlie, West Australia. It is interesting to note that - the yearling ' Ronald (Birkenhead —St. Evangeline),-for which Mr. G. F. Moore refused • 200gns. in 1 New Zealand, realised 300 ens. in Australia. Dillon Bell, who won the jFuturity Stakes at Addington on Wednesday, is said to be ono of the most promising trotters seen 1 in New. Zealand, for a long time. ; He will'shortly be sent to Melbourne.' ; It is understood that the two-year-old Danube will-"be brought to Trentham to compete in the North. Island Challenge Stakes, on Wednesday. ■ Sal, Tasker (Rothschild —Jessie) was' shipped aboard, the TJlimaroa at Lyttelton on. Thursday, and-passed through ) herd yesterday for Sydney, 'where shewill bo taken charge of by D. J. Prico and railed to Melbourne. While on, the other side; Sal Tasker may be matched against the best, pacers the CommonI woalth can produoe. Armlet is generally reckoned to be well treated in both the Thompson Handicap, and the Railway Handicap, but a rumour was current in Wellington yesterday to the effect that she will, not make the acceptance. • As the acceptances: close to-night it will.not be long before the doubt is cleired up.; It -was anticipated that ." Boanerges would make ■ amends "for his failure in the' Great Easter Handicap: by Winning the Templeton Handicap on the second day of the: Riccarton listure, but; ho again ran 'badly, aiyl' .his form completely 'puzzled his. trainer.' '■ ' By; to-night a fairly large ii'umber of should be located at : Trentham, and,. interesting track work may be looked for on Monday and Tuesday. The principal' events on Wednesday seem likely to attract large fields, and the 1 competitors will be. of a class to ■ensure good racing. It is reported on what appears to be reliable authority that jmnlet. will make, another trip to Australia before very long. The Mensehikolf mare , won a racei there-asa-two-year-old, and she is such' a brilliant performer still that sho would be sure to shapo well against tho"best' thoroughbreds in Australia at tha. present time.. " This afternoon the -Australian..Jockey Club's autumn. : meeting will be concluded. Although Bobrikoff has. beenstarted twice at the meeting, he ha 3 not up to the present been opposed by Prince Foote, but it will be , noticed, that to-day both are engaged in, the A.J.C. Plate, three miles.,: Bobrikolf a stayer, but he has not yet proved it, and on that account it hardly : seems likely that he will bo left to' fulfil his engagement against such a proved stayer as Prince .i''oot-c.-.The latter has .been twice defeated.-'by Malt King this season, but his : :win in tho Melbourne .Cup and his two ./Derby victories. and two , St; . Leger victories stamp him as.: champion. horse of the ' year,. , It, is evident,' however, that he' is .not :a champion over .a mile course,, otherwise he would have been withdrawn from the Cumberland Stakes on Wednesday and started iu the. AllAged Stakes, where, he would havo had a chance of beating his previous conqueror, Malt King, and also the New Zealand champion, Bobrikoff. All this considered it will not be surprising if Bobrikoff is withdrawn from ' the A.J.C. Plate to-day. The extent to. which tho, mania, for everything 'pertaining to horse-racing is developing (says the Buenos Ayres' "Herald") oannot better bo driven home than by the statement that during the month of November theie were raco meetings on twenty-four out. of the thirty days, and that the number of betting (tickets sold reached the tremeu-' dous total of 4,533,249, representing an outlay by the public of 9,066,498 dollars. Out, of this sum tlio three hippodromes collect 906,649 dollars as commission on the. sale of tickets. In addition to this must be added the amount taken on each of tho twenty-four-days as gate money. Were it not for the fact that the'evil is a serious one, the extent to which the gambling fever in this, city has. taken hold of the people might be said to be exorbitantly absurd. But it is of far too great import to discuss, flippantly. Money is. easily earned here, and it's just as easily spent. V/ESTLAND RACING CLUB'S MEETING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.)
