(By Tokeraph.-Spccial Corresnonflcnt.) Palmerston, April 1. Much satisfaction is .expressed liero at the decision, of the Hon. Mr. Buddo to allow a month's open season for swans, ducks, and imported game. As I previously mentioned, hares and quail have becomo very numerous latterly, and are doing a good deal of damage in the surrounding country. Though only four weeks are to be allowed sportsmen, no doubt their numbers will be a good deal thinned out in that time. ■

:..Thc fortnightly meeting of tho local. Lodge- of Oddfellows, M.U., was held last night, P.G. Bro. Pettell being in the chair. Two new members wore proposed: There were a number of visitors present, including two members of tho Stratford Lodge. At the Okoroire golf tournament, Mr. J. S. Tyeman, of Pahiatua, won tho championship gold medal from scratch. _He was also runner-up iu tho; driving competition.

The. bowling season was practically concluded in Palmerston yesterday with the end.of the 1 club's pairs tournament. The final for this was Spooner and J. A. Nash against E. S. Dixou (sub.) and Tasker, the first-named pair winning by 20 to 11. In the concluding game of the colts' singleß, Eraser beat Jelly by 14 to 12. ■ ~-•■ , : .'.'..

The Old Boys' Hockey Club will have four and twenty players in the field in the current season, and it has been decided: to enter two teams for the senior championship. The gold medal presented. by Mr.; F. E.. Watson will go ;to the most' consistent player in tließ team in the coming season, and a similar medal will be awarded to the most, consistent junior player. Messrs. Kyle, president, in the chair, it was reported that over two hundred entries; had been received for the first volume of the herd book, and committees wore appointed to inspect &11 the entries. Correspondence was read from the Ayrshire Herd Book ciety of Scotland offering to • supply fifteen volumes of tho herd book free of cost,_ and it was decided to accept the graoious gift. It was resolved to ask the A. and P. Association to elect judges as far possible from the list of judges-of the'breeders , association. A number of new members were elected.
