CARTERTON ITEMS.
A farewell social is to be tendered on Friday evening at Carterton to the Rev. W. J. Elliott, who has been superintendent of the South Wairarapa Methodist Circuit for the past three years, during which time he has made many friends, all of whom regret his approaching departure for Wanganui. Tho formation work in Seddon Street is at present being carried out. The metalling stago has been reached, and those who have occasion to use the street will no doubt fully appreciate tho work, which has been badly needed for some considerable time. The work of asphalting the southern portion of High Street is proceeding apace, and the borough staff, under the engineer, Mr. G. ■ H. Herbert, is making an excellent job of it. Rapid progress, is being mndo with the erection of the dwelling in AVakelin Street for Mr. J. H. Wakclin. The structure is being erected Upon modern .lines, and will have all conveniences under the one roof, which should be a great consideration in winter time. Slowly, but surely, this recently-opened street is getting 'populated.
