. 4-— — s OPENED BY .LORD PLTJNKET. (By Telecraoß.—Ptcbs Association.! Dunedin, March 31. The Hocken Library in connection withthe Otago' University Museum was opened by Lord Plunket this afternoon. The library is the storehouse of a very large collection of very valuable manuscripts, charts, files of old newspapers, and othei documents collected by Dr. Hocken during many .years. Great regret was felt at the fact that Dr.. Hocken, owing t«.serious illness, was unable to be present. Addresses were given by Mr. G, Fenwick, chairman of the Hocken Li. brary Trustees,' and his Excellency the Governor. Sir J.-.G. Ward, in a letter," expressed regret at his inability to b« present. Dr. Hocken has intimated, hif intention to • present, to the institute i number of Japanese works, Maori carp ings, weapons,- and ornaments. ■ >
