TERRITORIAL FORCE.
IMPORTANT STAFF APPOINTMENTS. In connection with the reorganisation, of the Headquarters' Staff of the Territorial Force, rendered necessary by - the introduction of the new defence scheme, it is reported, unofficially, that two important staff appointments have just been made. Lieut.-Colonel E. W. C. Chaytor, who returned from England some, months ago after a course of study at the Staff College at. Camberley, at which .he graduated, has been appointed Director of •Military Education on the General Staff. Lieut.-Golbnel Chaytor has'been attached to the General Staff since his return to New Zealand, but has not held any special appointment. Major E. ff. W. LascelW(3rd Dragoon Guards), at present on the Instructional Staff at Headquarters, New Zealand Defence Forces, will also be given the directorship of an important department of the General Staff.
DOMINION SCOUTS. ■ ■ In last night's Gazette there appears the following announcement—the sequel to the incident which occurred in the offi-. cers' quarters of the training camp of the Dominion Sconts at the Hutt Park some time ago :— His- Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, under Section 5 (a) of the Defence Act, 1909, of the dismissal from the Territorial. Force, New Zealand Defence Forces, of Acting-Lieutenant Aubrey Houston, for behaving in a disorderly manner and in a manner subversive of good. discipline while present at a camp of exercise. Date of dismissal, March 22, 1910.-rJ. G. Ward, Minister for, Defence. The following Press Association . tele-, gram was received from,' Dunedin last evening:— ' "In connection with the inquiry that took place regarding the disturbance in the Dominion Scout camp at Trentham a few weeks ago, the Prime Minister states that.Capt. Dalrymple has been reprimanded and Lieut. : Houston.,,, dismissed." COMPULSORY TRAINING. Instructions have 'just been' issued from Headquarters, Territorial Force, that all lads attending high schools and colleges (secondary schools), and not being at present trained, are to be either enrolled in existing companies, or new companies formed to ensure that .all undergo training. As "double-rank infantry drill is now to be practised, companies' will require to be of greater strength. The peace strength o'£ an infantry company under the new peace establishments is to be .84 lof all ranks. Senior cadets may be enrolled up to the same strength, of companies.
. WELLINGTON ENGLNBEES. The statutory annual meeting of . the Wellington Engineer Volunteers was held at the Garrison Wall, Buckle Street, last evening, Captain Gibbs, 0.C., presiding. The usual oommittees were duly elected and honorary officers appointed. The annual report of the corps will.be presented at a later date.
RIFLE SHOOTING. Targets for the week-end matches at Trentham to-morrow have been allotted as follows:— -' Collins Bange, 200, 500, and GOO yards. —Third-claes Shield Final. Sommerville Range, 200 and 600 yards. —Dominion Scouts, 1-2; Post and Telegraph Rifles, 3-5; Civil Service Eifles, 6-7; Karori Rifle Club, 8-11; Guards, 1213; Highland Rifles, 14-15; Petone Navals, 16. ' Seddon Eange,'Boo and 900 yards.—. Zealandia Rifles, 1-3.
