The late Mr; W. H. Brewer, whose death was announced yesterday, arrived in New Zealand in'the ship London in I$S2. In the early days he followed t!he occupation of a fisherman, and during tie Maori .War served in the militia, for many years being: a member of the Wellington City Rifles. He took a keen interest in cricket, and for. many years was a prominent Wellington bowler, representing Wellington with the first team that went to Auckland. He was also a member of tie Wellington Rowing Club, and was ono of the crew who ia 1870 won tho Shaw-Savill Cup. He entered the service of the, Wellington , Corporation many years ago, and for twenty-fivo years was custodian of the Newtown Park. He leaves a widow and a family of nine, all of whom are married. _ as well as a large number of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. • ."■.'.'. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance, which, will be held in Wellington on June 15, and succeeding days, will probably.be the largest, most representative, and most important 'colonial meeting of the No-License party ever held in Now Zealand. . The programme for the meeting is not yet arranged in detail, but it is understood that matters of great interest \rill be dealt with, including legislative proposals and future 'policy.
