* PETONE V, UPPER HUTT. Ob Saturday last a match between tho Petono and Upper- Hutt Rifle Clubs was fired at Waiwetu. The result was a win for Upper Hutt. by 48 points. AND T.'S AT JOHNSONVILLE. a team representing the 'Wellington Post and Telegraph Rifles visited JoliusonriUe, and spent the holiday in trying conclusions in marksmanship with tho local volunteer corps, tho Johnsonville Hides. Tho visitors were met at the station by Lieut, Meurielecs (officer commanding the local corps), and were hospitably entertained at lunch, which was provided by Col.-Scrgt. Bould. After Innch the first stag© of a ten-shot trams match, at. 200 and 500 yards, was taken, the resnlt Hiving tho local men a. lead of six iHiints. Two service events were next disposed of, and tho/500yds. stage nf tho teams match was I lien completed, the finish, a three-point win for the visitors, being a most' oioitiua one. The
match was fought out. to the very'last I; round by the junior :shots of, the teams, the grand aggregates being 627 for the visitors and- 624 for the home team.' rr The service events • consisted of a. 'chattio" match and. a' "running-man" competition. In the "chattie" competition, the conditions-were of the "sudden •feath" order. The ranges varied from 2.00 to 275 yards, and the targets were so many_bricks, each representing onemember of the contesting teams. Immediately a brick waa hit by a member of the one team one of the opposing team dropped out- of action,. The match was an exciting one, and resulted'in a win for the Johnsonville Rifles, who scored seven hits to their, opponents' three.hits. In the, numing-man competition the man' was represented by a ' big tin cylinder, which was rolled down hUI towards the firing point. Each man was allowed . two rounds,' the match being fired off in two heats, four men each. The result was: a win for the Johnsonville Rifles, who registered five hits to their opponents' three. ■
