VITAL STATISTICS.
The Registrar-General' 8 rei>orfc on th« vital .statistics of the principal, towns of New Zealand during the month of February, 1910,. gives the following death-rates per 1000 of population:— Auckland, 1.18; Wellington, 0.89 j Christchurch,' 0.72 ; Dunedin, 0.87. The inclusion of the' suburban boroughs tends to lower the rate at each of the four centres, the rates as computed being as ' follow (the rates . foi February, 1909, being plaoed in paffen* theses for comparison):—Auckland. 0.94 (1-00)WeHington, 0.88 (0.47): Christchurch, 0.69 (0.68); Dqnedk, 0.78. (0.91). - ; _ The total births in the abow cjtksa and boroughs amounted to 557/ against 631 in January—a decrease of 74. Tha deaths in February were 233—an increase of 6 on the number in January. Of the total deaths, males contributed 130, females 103. Ninety-eight of tha deaths were of children under five years of age, being 42.06 per cent, of tha whole number; 86 of these were uiidea one year of ago. There wore 56 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards.,
