AT.A., the recently-appointed professor of theology and apologetics at Knox College, arrived in Dunedin on Tuesday last. Mr. Dickie's induction took place at First Church on Wednesday last. Bromilow, the well-known Methodist - missionary, now residing in Sydney. Dr; Bromilow is'.a conspicuous member of the heroic: band of men who,' as the pioneers of Christianity, have done so much to civilise'the'people of the Pacific Islands. He was for ten years, engaged in.Fiji, where he rendered very valuable service at "a "time when missions were not favoured quite as much as ; to-day. In 1891 he formed one of tho pioneer party to establish Methodist missions ni New' Guinea, and he resided there, for 17 years, during the whole of which time he was chairman of the district! Like many other missionaries, amid innumerable'calls to duty, he translated the New Testament into tho language of Gob-u, and from time to time he gavo most timely assistance ;, to the Government of New Guinea, which they repeatedly- acknowledged. , Lately' Dr. Bromilow has been engaged;'in missionary deputation work in various parts of Australia, but the Methodist Conference which has just l ) closed appointed him to the Strathficld circuit, where ho will go next month. Mr. ;W. Franklyn,! Barrett, expert kinematographer for PatheFreres, who was in New Zealand.so recently, is how doing the whole of the South Sea Islands for. the Parisian firm of picturemakers. Writing from Apia (Samoa), on March 12,, Mr. Barrett ;■ states that he'has already done Nukualofa, Haapai, and Yavau, in the Tonga group, and after confining representations of tie beautiful scenery of Samoa in his little cabinet he will visit Levuka and Suva, after which he hopes to return to New Zealand, to complete• his tour of the Dominion.- -;■• ■ -.■:

The Rev. J, A. Mackenzie, who i* off on a trip to England, was presented at the fortnightly meeting of the -Hope of Shannon Lodge of: the 1.0. G.T. with' a handsome crocodile> pocket wallet, as : a mark of esteem, from the members (says a Manawatu paper): Mr. Mackenzie has been'chaplain to the lodge'.for some considerable :timo. ■

Reid, relieving officer from the Wellington office, will acti as secretary there during Mr. Hair's absence. ; - ■.• ■■'•; A farewell "social" was tendered oa Thursday night to Mr. 6. Powell, who proceeds to England at the beginning of April to act as the Australasian representative of the; Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners. The function was held at Scott's tea-rooms, and Mr. H. Warner'was chairman. Mr. AV. Wagstaffc, chairman of the District Committee,'was also, present. The following toasts were honoured:— "The A:S.C.J.," : Our Guest," "Our M. and .D. Committees," and "The Organising Secretary.'' A varied musical programme' was contributed to by a large number of thoso present, and the evening was spent pleasantly! Mr. r R. M'Ewan, manager of Puponga Colliery, is at present in Wellington. Mr. and Mra. Harold Redmayne, two children, and maid, were passengers on Thursday by the, sj. < Tainui They expect to return to the Dominion next year. Mr. Redmayne is a member of the Oroua County Council, and an old resident in tho Fcilding district Mr. W. L. Clifford was a passenger for Lyttelton by the Maori last night.
