CONCERT AT ST. PETER'S.
St. Peter's Church was well filled last evening, when the' choir gave- a sacred concert, which from every point of view was highly successful. It exhibited the choir as a well-balanced body of vocalists, well up to the requirements of the work attempted,- which was .by no means commonplace, and a number of soloists above the usual choir standard. The programme was in keeping with the season. s It included three requiems of. Brahms, "Blessed are they, that mourn," "Ye now are sorrowful"' (in which number, Mrs. F. P. Wilson, as soloist, sang' particularly well), and "How lovely is Thy dwelling-place." Mr. J. A." Doherty sang Faure's solo, "Les Rameaux" (First Palm Sunday), aud Mr.'H. Illingworth, a good tenor, contributed the Handelian solo, "But Thou did'st not leave." The programme also included a creditable interpretation of Wesley's motett, "The-Wilderness," and;an-or-gan solo, Harwood's "Sonata in C-sharp Minor," played-with- understanding by Dr. W. Kington Fyffe. A collection was taken up in aid of the choir funds.
