MIRAMAR MAYORALTY.

MR. F. TOWNSEND A CANDIDATE. A deputation, headed by Mr. A. E. Mabin, waited on Mr. F. Townsend yesterday morning with the request that he should allow himself to be nominated for the' Mayoralty of Miramax. ' ♦ In preferring the request, Mr. Mabin presented a petition, which, he said, contained 100 signatures, favouring Mr. Townsend's candidature. Mr. Mabin added that the borough's needs demanded a man who was' conversant with its affairs. This applied particularly to the tramway affairs, in.which 'an acute .position had-been reached, tho speaker intimating that, he considered Mr. Townsend the right man. to place the system on a more stable basis. Messrs. D. K. Blair, C. D. Bowie, and F. Haybittle also spoke, the lastnamed laying emphasis on the good work that Mr. Townsend had done wheu Mayor of Miramar. Mr. Townsend expressed gratification at the representative character of the deputation, and the signatories of the petition. He had always had great faith ■ in the -. borough : and its possibilities, and though he had, been out of municipal politics for a couple of years, he had not lost that, faith and confid.enco. After referring to his trip Home, Mr. Townsend said that, if elected, his policy would be one of "go.slow" for a while at least. He had much pleasure in acceding to the wishes of the deputation.
