They received the usual. salutes, • and official visits were exchanged. [Tlk Soya (at one timo the Russian cruiser Varyag) is a ves&el of 6500 tons and.was,built at, Philadelphia in. 1900. She has a speed of 23 knots and a complement of 571 men. She carries 12 6-inch, 12 12-pounder, and 6 3-pounder guns.. The. Aso. was also once a Russian vessel,- the Bayan. She is of 7726 tons displacement, was built at La Seyne in 1902, has a speed of 22 knots and carries 600 men.l
