MASTERTON LIQUOR CASES.
. ONE SUCCESSFUL ' . ' (Bj Teletraph.—Soecial Correspondent) ~■•■:." Masterton, March 18. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. C. C. Graham, S.M., Michael J. Clune waa charged with bringing 'liquor into , ' the No-License area o£ Masterton without giving. the name and address of the person for whom it was intended. The facts of the case were, briefly, that. defendant, who is; carrying on business in Mosterton, had sent for four gallons of beer—rtwo . for himself,; and two for a man named '. E. ■'. Henderson, whose address, if was alleged, had not been given. His Worship stated that no doubt a technical breach of the law had been committed by defendant having omitted to put the word ."Masterton" on the order, but, beyond that, he did not think that there had been any. intention to break.the.law.' The case was dismissed..
John Alfred Leahy appeared in Court on a similar charge. The evidence was to the 'effect that'he had purchased some liquor in Carterton on behalf of a Mrs. Neilson in his own name. Defendant was fined £5 and caste. A similar charge against Jeannie Leahy, wife of the former defendant, was dismissed. Kate Neilson was charged with keeping liquor for sale within the No-License area of Masterton, two five-gallon kegs of beer having been found on the premises. It was shown that the beer had been purchased by, and belonged to, her boarders, and'the case, was, accordingly, dismissed. . . . ... .
