An elderly man named Charles Wilson pleaded guilty (1) to stealing a pair of pliers valued at 255., the property of Arthur Illingworth Grabham; and (2) to tho theft of a liammor valued at 35., the property -of George Marshall. , On the application of Chief Detective Broberg, who stated that further charges Wore being investigated, accused was remanded, until March 21 for sentence.; INSOBRIETY. ; ; One first offender for drunkenness who failed to appear was convicted and'fined 10s., with the alternative of 24 hours' imprisonment. Tho Industrial Schools Amendment Aot -of last year,. which empowers the . police'to-bring any uncontroflablo child before the Court and to commit tho child to a receiving home,- was enforced for the first time in; Wellington yesterday when a girl. 14} years of age was charged in the Juvenile Court with being a child not uijder proper control. It was stated that; the girl' hrtd run away .froni 'homo on'three occasions, and had got quite out of the control of her mother. . An order was mado to have the child committed to St. Joseph's Orphanage.
